A: A domain name is a unique address used for identifying a web site on the Internet. The domain name consists of two parts separated by a period. The first part is usually text that identifies a person or an organization (such as dream-web-design). The second part briefly identifies the type of business or organization it represents - common domain identifiers include .com, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .edu, .gov, or .int. It generally costs $10-15/year to register a domain name. You will have to renew your registration every year; otherwise your domain name will be registered by someone else. Please see detailed information about domain name registration.
A: No, we prefer to work with large hosting companies whose prices are lower than resellers can offer, and who can provide 24/7 free support. Please see the list of web hosting providers we recommend.
A: Our recommendations vary in each specific case. The decision about shopping cart type depends on your business' needs and your personal preferences. If you do not have a large amount of items to sell and/or you do not generally need to edit your online store, we suggest to select an open source shopping cart (Example: Mal's e-commerce), or merchant service shopping cart (Examples: Paypal, Google Checkout) that are free of charge and easy to configure. However if you need to update your online store regularly, the best solution will be a database based fully integrated shopping cart (Example: CubeCart), that contains administrator panel to make changes. This type of shopping cart will require either one time payment or annual/monthly fee. Besides shopping cart type you should think about merchant account if you decide to process online transactions. Any merchant account provider requires either monthly payment and transaction fee or transaction fee only. |
